Advent 2013: A New Shoot

Today marks the first day of Advent, and my family and I will be marking the days till Christmas using a Jesse Tree.  We’re using Ann Voskamp’s advent devotional: The Greatest Gift.

Today we placed the ornament of the Jesse Tree- a stump of a tree with a new shoot sprouting forth.

Out of the stump of David’s family will grow a shoot– yes, a new Branch bearing fruit from the old root…….In that day the heir to David’s throne will be a banner of salvation to all the world.  The nations will rally to him, and the land where he lives will be a glorious place.  Isaiah 11:1,10

Will you join me on the journey of Advent?  Do you want to see new fruit from old root?  Let’s see what God will do in us, in our families, in each other during this holy season.
